Varsity Overtime

5-minute stop-time 3-on-3 sudden death, teams switch ends. Still tied → sudden-death shootout (1-shooter minimum); home team picks first or second.

Kennedy Cup

JV: must have a winner; ice cut every 3 periods. Varsity: regulation time rules.

3-round shootout, then round-by-round until decided — no ties. No player shoots twice until all skaters have shot.

Mercy Rule

5-goal lead → running clock for the duration of the game.

OT — Regular Season, Round Robin, Semis

  • 3-on-3, 5-minute running-clock sudden death (stops for injuries/penalties)
  • Still tied → sudden-death shootout; home picks first or last
  • Players in the box at end of regulation must serve fully before joining OT; players in the box at end of OT can't shoot
  • No repeat shooters until all eligible players have shot

OT — Finals

  • West Cup finals series: 3-on-3, 10-minute running sudden death
  • McKeague Cup Final: 5-on-5, 10-minute sudden death; then 3-on-3 10-minute periods until a winner

Running Clock & Ice Cut

5-goal lead in the 3rd → running clock (stops for penalties, injuries, official's discretion; penalty clocks keep running). *No ice cut if the differential is 5+ at the end of the 2nd.

Game Outcomes

Regular season & round robin: ties stand, no OT. Bracket play: sudden death 5v5, then 4v4, then shootout — no repeat shooters until all skaters have shot.

Other

One 60-second timeout per team per game. Crossover games vs. Scholastic, IL West, CCHL, etc. may use 15- or 17-minute periods.

Blackhawk Cup OT

  • All games play to a winner: full-length 5v5 sudden-death periods (2-min break between), switching ends each period, until decided
  • Consolation games: max two OT periods, then shootout
  • Shootout: 3 shooters each (home picks order), then sudden death; no repeats until all eligible players shoot. Final score = winner +1 over regulation score

Running Clock

5-goal lead in the 3rd → running clock; stops only if the lead drops below 5, for injuries, penalties, or at the referee's discretion. Home team also enforces a running clock when game time matches remaining ice time.

Intermissions & Mercy

2 min after the 1st, 12 min after the 2nd (resurfacing), 2 min before OT. 5-goal mercy rule. *5+ goal differential after the 2nd → no ice cut; 2-minute intermission instead.

Overtime & Shootout

  • 5-minute sudden death, 3 skaters + goalie; teams switch sides; USA Hockey penalty rules apply
  • Still tied → 1-minute break, goalies switch to bench-side goal, sudden-death shootout
  • Players serving penalties can't shoot; all skaters shoot before any repeats

Varsity Playoffs

10-minute full-strength sudden death, then 3-on-3 periods until a winner. Teams switch sides each OT; resurfacing after the 2nd and 5th OT periods.

Other

One 60-second timeout per team. Home wears dark. No post-game handshakes in the regular season.
